I hear it being said all the time. An overweight person says she’s proud of her body and she’s happy with what she’s got and she doesn’t feel she needs to lose weight – she’s happy.
Is the really??
I suppose there are varying degrees of obesity and being overweight, but let’s say she’s well on her way to becoming obese. How can she be truly happy with that? How could anyone be happy with that?
How can anyone be happy about huffing and puffing after only walking up a few stairs? How on earth can anyone be happy when they can no longer walk properly because the amount of fat they are carrying means they can no longer walk properly because their legs now have to be kept further apart?
What about parents who don’t have the energy (or the ability) to play games with their children? What about parents who can’t go swimming or cycling with their children?
What about the humiliation many suffer when they can’t fit onto (or into) a chair properly because their butt is too big? I had a friend tell me about a woman at a show who needed help getting up from her chair because her butt was wedged in tight. What would have been going through her mind? Surely she knew the reason she was in this predicament was because she was overweight?
Personally, I believe that an overweight person who says they’re truly happy are lying – especially to themselves.
If you were happy with who you were, you wouldn’t punish your body by putting unhealthy things into it. You would look after it and treat it like it deserves to be treated. You would make sure you mostly ate healthy food. You would do whatever it took to live a happy, healthy, fulfilling life.
