How to stop overeating fast food

January 15, 2023 by Michelle

There are a number of reasons why you might tend to overeat junk food, and today we’re going to talk through some ways to prevent that from happening!

The food industry is very clever when it comes to the manufacture of foods which are cheap to produce, easy to get access to, and our taste buds and it feels as though our taste buds and our brains cannot resist them!

The good news is that it is possible to get past all of this!

Here are just a few strategies you can put in place to beat the system, so that you can take your power back when it comes to the foods that you eat…

Notice your chewing

When food is easy to chew, it’s also easy to overeat. Have you ever noticed how long it takes to eat a bunch of fries vs a healthy salad??

Evaluate your pantry

If you want to change the way you grocery shop, it’s tood to be aware of what kind of foods you buy, and most importantly, why you buy them!

Look for habit patterns

When do you have the urge to overeat? This self knowledge will help you to prevent this triggered eating by managing the situations which lead to overeating.

Find feel-good habits that support your weight loss goals

Once you’re aware of what’s triggering you, try replacing eating with an activity that supports your goals. Maybe go for a walk or listen to your favourite music while dancing around your house when you sense this trigger happening!

Slow down

If cutting out junk or processed foods feels too much right now, let’s start off by eating the same foods, but more slowly and mindfully. You will be amazed at what can happen when you do this!

Put quality above quantity

Processed foods use cheap ingredients (who would know the difference anyway?), which of course is why the food can be sold more cheaply than fresh, whole foods.

At first it may feel difficult to cut out the processed foods (they can be addictive!), so why not just gradually add in more high-quality foods to your diet? You could eat the healthier fresh, whole food, and then treat yourself with the usual processed food after that.

Because you have filled up on the fresh, whole food, you’ll have less room for the processed food, which will gradually move you closer to your weight loss goal!
