Let’s start with a slightly uncomfortable question.
Is your mind helping you lose weight… or is it casually escorting you back to the snack drawer like it’s part of the evening routine?
Because for most people, the problem isn’t a lack of knowledge. It’s not that you don’t know what to eat or that moving your body is a good idea.
It’s that your mind is running a completely different program behind the scenes.
And your body is just following instructions.
Your body is not the boss here
Your body is not sitting there making independent decisions like, “You know what, I feel like holding onto this extra weight just to annoy her.”
It responds to your internal state.
Your beliefs create your thoughts.
Your thoughts create your emotions.
Your emotions drive your behaviour.
And your behaviour?
That’s what shapes your results over time.
So if your thoughts are all over the place, your actions will be too.
One minute you’re motivated.
The next minute you’re negotiating with a packet of biscuits like it’s a high-stakes business deal.
The “I’ll start again Monday” loop
You know this one well.
You start strong. You’re focused. You’re organised. You’re practically glowing with determination.
Then something small happens.
A stressful day.
A missed workout.
A cheeky “I’ll just have one” moment that turns into… well… several.
And suddenly your mind goes, “Well, that’s ruined now.”
So instead of adjusting, you abandon the whole thing and promise yourself a dramatic restart on Monday.
That’s not a willpower issue.
That’s a subconscious pattern doing exactly what it’s been trained to do.
Why mindset actually changes your body
This is where things get interesting.
Your mind doesn’t just influence your choices. It influences your entire state.
If you’re constantly thinking:
- “This is hard”
- “I always mess this up”
- “I can’t stick to anything”
Your body responds by creating emotions that match those thoughts.
Frustration.
Guilt.
Resistance.
And from that state, what actions are you likely to take?
Exactly.
Now compare that to someone whose internal dialogue sounds more like:
- “I’m getting better at this”
- “This one off moment doesn’t define me”
- “I know how to get back on track quickly”
Same situation. Completely different outcome.
There is already a version of you who has this sorted
Here’s the part most people don’t consider.
There is a version of you who already has the body you want.
She’s not guessing. She’s not starting over every second week. She’s not emotionally spiralling because she had dessert.
She just lives differently.
And not because she’s “lucky” or magically disciplined.
But because her thoughts, emotions, and actions are aligned with that result.
Your job is not to force your way there through sheer effort.
Your job is to start thinking and acting like her… now.
Even in small ways.
Your actions matter more than you think
Now before your mind runs off thinking this is all just positive thinking and hoping for the best, let’s bring it back to reality.
Your physical actions anchor your internal state.
They matter.
A lot.
- When you choose to move your body, you reinforce the identity of someone who takes care of herself
- When you prepare a nourishing meal, you build trust with yourself
- When you follow through on small commitments, your confidence grows
But here’s the catch.
If those actions are fuelled by punishment, guilt, or “I hate this but I have to do it”, your mind will fight you the entire way.
That’s why aligned action is everything.
It’s not just what you do. It’s the state you’re in when you do it.
How to stop your mind acting like a drama queen
Let’s keep this practical, because this is where real change happens.
Start here:
- Notice your default thoughts without immediately believing them
- Interrupt the “all or nothing” pattern when it shows up
- Choose one or two habits that feel doable, not overwhelming
- Celebrate progress, even when it feels small
- Speak to yourself like someone who is improving, not failing
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight.
You just need to stop reinforcing the old pattern.
Feel it before you see it
If you take one thing from this, let it be this.
You don’t wait to feel good until after you’ve lost the weight.
You create that internal state first.
Because your external world is reflecting what’s happening internally.
If your thoughts, emotions, and actions are aligned with someone who feels strong, confident, and in control, your results will start to match that.
If they’re not, they won’t.
Simple.
Not always easy. But it IS simple.
Your next step
If you’re tired of your mind sabotaging your efforts and sending you back to square one, it’s time to change the pattern.
Not just your meal plan. Not just your workouts.
The pattern.
