If you want to lose weight, you want to do it properly, right? If you’re like many people, you feel like you’re fighting a losing battle. You might lose some weight then put it on again. You will then lose some more, then put it all again and then some. This yo-yo situation is frustrating and you will very likely end up giving up trying to lose weight, which is sad really.
To lose weight, your nutrition comes first. If you’re exercising well but eating a lot of rubbish, then chances are you won’t lose much, if any weight. Not only that, but your health will probably suffer too.
If you feel that to lose weight you must eat less, then yes, that’s true to some extent, but many people also feel that to eat less they must skip meals. Others live such a busy life that skipping breakfast or other meals becomes a common habit and that is not good.
When you first wake in the morning you must eat. This gets your metabolism going. If you choose to skip breakfast like many people do, then your metabolism runs much slower than it should, so when you finally do eat, your body thinks it has to store as much as possible (in the way of fat) in case it is starved again. Now that’s obviously not good if you’re trying to lose fat and not gain it!
Ideally, you should eat 5 to 6 smaller meals each day. This not only increases your body’s fat-burning ability, but it also provides you with more consistent energy to keep going.
Of course you must also look at the types of foods you are eating. Generally, natural, unprocessed foods are best, but of course there might be the odd occasion where you can’t avoid “bad” foods. If that’s the case, be sure to limit the amount you consume.
Now, to make it easier for you to stick to your healthy eating regime, it is important to plan ahead. So plan your meals a week in advance. Each day you will know exactly what you are going to eat and you will find that because you have already planned for it (and hopefully bought what you need), then actually eating all of that good, healthy food will be easy to do. Also, if you don’t buy junk food, then it won’t be in the house to tempt you!
